Good Friday Evening, Washington Nationals Fans. Welcome to a special evening edition of our Morning Briefing.

It was such a big day in baseball, so we figured that if you weren’t able to keep up with all the Washington Nationals and Major League Baseball news, we have you covered.

Here is a quick roundup of the Washington Nationals News and Headlines

The Washington Nationals signed ten international prospects. Richard wrote an article outlining all the signings, including 16 Year Old International Shortstop Prospect Armando Cruz. From the article: “As we have been reporting all week long, according to a report the Washington Nationals have signed 16-year-old International shortstop prospect Armando Cruz. According to reports, The Washington Nationals have agreed to a 3.95 million dollar signing bonus for the international prospect.” Cruz ties fellow infield prospect Yasel Antuna, for the largest international signing bonus in team history. Here is an overview of the signings.

  •  Five pitchers (4 RHP, 1 LHP),
  • 3 OF, 2 INF – Aruba (1), Dominican Republic (5), Venezuela (4) –
  • Youngest: LHP Gabriel Agostini, 7/24/04
  • Left-handed batters: OF Cristian Batista, INF Winder Diaz (switch-hitting)

Washington Nationals Salary Arbitration. Going into today, this was one of the biggest stories. As of today, the Washington Nationals have agreed to terms with their recent acquisition: Josh Bell. The Washington Nationals have avoided salary arbitration and agreed to terms with Josh Bell on a one-year contract worth $6.35 million salary for 2021. That’s about what the first baseman was projected to make in his second year of arbitration eligibility.

Steve Mears from TalkNats.com is reporting, “that the Nats didn’t come to an agreement w/ Trea Turner/Juan Soto by the 1pm deadline. The agents & Mike Rizzo will continue to negotiate. What it means is both sides had to submit their numbers to the league office but it doesn’t guarantee they go to a hearing.” Follow us on Twitter for the latest information as it becomes available on the salary negotiations between Trea Turner, Juan Soto, and the Washington Nationals.

Former Washington Nationals Player News. It feels like an end of an era, and the Washington Nationals are moving on quickly from their incredible 2019 World Series Championship. According to the Athletic, fan-favorite, free-agent catcher, Kurt Suzuki has inked a one-year, $1.5M contract with the Los Angeles Angels. The Nationals weren’t planning on renewing Suzuki’s contract, so this isn’t a big surprise to see him not returning to the Nationals in 2021. Additionally, according to Robert Murray of FanSided, former Washington Nationals infielder Wilmer Difo signed a minor league deal worth $1MM with incentives should Difo make the Major League roster with the Pittsburg Pirates. Difo had spent the past decade-plus in the Nationals’ system, with Washington originally adding him as an international amateur. He has picked up big league playing time in each of the past six years, with the bulk of that work coming from 2017-18.

Top Free Agent Second baseman DJ LeMahieu and the New York Yankees are finalizing a six-year, $90M contract. According to reports, the second baseman will be returning to the Bronx on a six-year $90M contract. Reports surfaced that LeMahieu was growing frustrated with the New York Yankees’ lack of momentum, causing him to tell his agent to reach out to other teams who had expressed interest, including the Blue Jays, Red Sox, Dodgers, and the New York Mets. We have the details here.
