As we inch closer to Opening Day 2023, here are the latest Washington Nationals headlines from Spring Training for March 14, 2023

The Nationals made another round of roster cuts.

Yesterday, the Nationals announced they were sending six players down to the minor leagues with 12 days before the major league team heads back to Washington, D.C.

Four pitchers were optioned to Triple-A Rochester (right-handers Cory Abbott, Jake Irvin, and Jordan Weems, left-hander Matt Cronin), one pitcher was optioned to Double-A Harrisburg (right-hander Jackson Rutledge), and one player (catcher Drew Millas) was reassigned to minor league camp.

The Orioles ask New York’s top court to toss out payment to the Nationals.

The long-running fight between the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals over television rights fees reached New York’s highest court Tuesday when a lawyer for the Orioles argued a $296.8 million award for 2012-16 made by a panel of baseball executives should be thrown out and the case reheard. A lawyer for the Washington Nationals stated, “Potential disputes that your honor is alluding to are ones that will be litigated, as this case has been litigated until kingdom come by my friends for the other side… So I think that is a recipe for just having this litigation continue and continue in a never-ending fashion as opposed to having one chapter of this at long last more than a decade later conclude.” Click here to read the full article.

Injury Report: Reliever Victor Arano

Reliever RHP Victor Arano is dealing with a shoulder impingement and doesn’t appear to be in the running for an Opening Day roster spot. The 28-year-old made 43 appearances last season with a 4.50 ERA and 1.405 WHIP, but he made only two appearances this spring before reporting shoulder soreness. Davey Martinez says the team will “shut him down for now… He will build strength,, and we’ll reevaluate him in about ten days. A little concerning, so that’s why we shut him down.”
