Washington Nationals Story Line: First Road Trip of 2022 brings them to Atlanta to face the Braves

In their first road trip of the 2022 season, the Washington Nationals head to Atlanta to face the 2021 World Series Champions. Last year the Nationals went 4-6 against the Braves at Truist Park. After this series, the Nationals and Braves will not face each other for two months…They will see each other at Nationals Park, from June 13–15. The Nationals will face the Braves 19 times this season with 10 in D.C. and 9 in Atlanta.

The Nationals are coming off a series loss against the New York Mets, however, the Nationals did get their first win of the 2022 season yesterday against the Mets.

Today’s GameNotes: What you Need To Know

Pitching Matchup

LHP Josh Rogers rejoins the Washington Nationals starting rotation in 2022 after making six starts for Washington at the end of 2021. Rogers signed a Minor League contract with the Nationals last year on June 4. Additionally, he was selected by the New York Yankees in the 11th round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Louisville (KY). In 2021, Rogers throw 4-Seam Fastball 52.6% of the time, the Slider 32.7%, Changeup 14.5%, and the Curveball 0.2%.

Way too early for this…

The Washington Nationals relievers have inherited 12 baserunners this season – the most of all Major League bullpens – and have allowed just one to score (8.3%) No other bullpen has inherited more than eight runners. Of the nine Major League Baseball teams to not allow an inherited runner to score, the most runners any bullpen has inherited along the way is five by the Houston Astros.

The Race to 100

OF Juan Soto is one home run away from hitting 100 career home runs. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Soto (23 years, 168 days) will join the following list of active players to hit their 100th career home run at age 23 and younger:

  • Miguel Cabrera (23 years, 127 days)
  • Bryce Harper (23 years, 181 days)
  • Ronald Acuña Jr. (23 years, 184 days)
