Fredericksburg Nationals

Leandro Emiliani hit a two-run homer in the 1st inning, Jacob Young reached base four times, but the Fredericksburg Nationals fell for the second straight game 11-5 to the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. Branden Boissiere also drove in two runs in the loss.

Emiliani hit his 8th homer of the year in the 1st, a no-doubter to right field to make it 2-0 Fredericksburg. Fredericksburg Nationals starter Jackson Rutledge got through the first two innings with ease, but the first eight men reached against him in the 3rd to chase him from the game. Bryan Peña came in to relieve him and did well to only allow one more run after the bases were loaded with nobody out, but Fayetteville scored six times in the frame to take a lead they would never relinquish.

Viandel Peña drove in Young with an RBI single in the 3rd inning, his 19th RBI of the year. Boissiere’s two-run single with two outs in the 5th made it a one-run game, but the FredNats would leave seven men on base in the final four innings and would never get any closer.

Rutledge and Peña combined to give up nine runs with eight of them being earned. Tyler Schoff was a bright spot out of the FredNat bullpen, pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. Todd Peterson also pitched and gave up two unearned runs.

The FredNats will go for the series split this afternoon with RHP Brendan Collins on the hill. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m.

Wilmington Blue Rocks

Saturday, the Wilmington Blue Rocks won 5-2 against the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Wilmington got eight hits over the game and thanks to a home run from Jeremy Ydens in the fifth inning.

Starter RHP Michael Cuevas pitched five innings of scoreless baseball, striking out seven, and only allowing three hits.

The Blue Rocks will send RHP Jake Irvin to the mound to finish up their series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers today with the first pitch at 2:00 p,m. EDT

Harrisburg Senators

Saturday, the Harrisburg Senators lost to the Erie SeaWolves 4-2, despite a home run from Alfredo Rodriguez in the top of the ninth. First baseman Wilson Garcia got his 22-second RBI of the season along with Alfredo Rodriguez who got his fifth RBI of the season. The Senators went 0-3 with runners in scoring position Saturday and left three base runners on base.

Starter RHP Luis Reyes gave up three runs on five hits, struck out five, and walked only one over five innings on Saturday.

The Senators will finish their weekend series today, with the first pitch at 1:35 p.m. EDT.

Rochester Red Wings

The Red Wings and Bisons split their Saturday twin bill at Frontier Field. The Wings took game one, 5-1, behind a complete game from Cade Cavalli before losing 13-0 in the nightcap.

GAME ONE

In the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, RHP Cade Cavalli registered his second straight quality start, striking out ten batters while giving up just one run in seven innings pitched. The Wings are 7-0 in quality starts this season and have registered six quality starts in their last 10 performances after having only one in their first 42 games. Cavalli’s ten strikeouts were the most since Devin Smeltzer had 10 on June 16, 2019, and his seven innings complete game is the first since Dietrick Enns’ in April 2018.

Rochester scored four runs in the fourth inning thanks to an RBI from C Taylor Gushue, and SS Ildemar Vargas.

Following Monday’s loss to Buffalo, DH Joey Meneses was 3-28 against the Bisons on the year. After today’s multi-hit performance, he is now 6-10 with a walk-off, a home run, and two RBI over his last three games versus Buffalo.

RF Josh Palacios added to the offense in the fifth, grounding into a force out that sent Andrew Stevenson home and gave the Wings a 5-1 lead, and the game one win.

*GAME TWO *

Rochester was shut out in game two as the Bisons cruised to a 13-0 victory that gave each team a win on the day. Tonight’s shutout was the first suffered by the Wings since opening day.

Buffalo’s Nathan Lukes hit an ultra-rare inside-the-park grand slam that put the Bisons up 4-0 in the fourth. The Wings allowed four more runs in the fifth inning after giving up a pair of doubles to Stevie Berman and Eric Stamets.

Buffalo scored two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to secure the win.

After allowing eight runs in 4 2/3 innings, Wings starting RHP Logan Verrett was relieved by RHP Matt Brill.

Cole Freeman registered Rochester’s only hit of the day as the Wings suffered their first one-hit game of the season in tonight’s loss.

The Wings remain in sole possession of the first place in the International League East, staying +2.5 games ahead of second-place Buffalo.

The final game of this series will take place on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. with RHP Cole Henry pitching first for Rochester.
