Leading this Morning’s Briefing: Juan Soto hit a three-run homer and the Washington Nationals beat the Philadelphia Phillies 9-3 Sunday to avoid a five-game sweep. Juan Soto hit a three-run homer and the Washington Nationals beat the Philadelphia Phillies 9-3 Sunday to avoid a five-game sweep.

Washington ended an eight-game skid and snapped Philadelphia’s seven-game road winning streak. Soto’s first-pitch, three-run homer in the second ran counter to his problems with runners in scoring position this season. Soto entered Saturday’s game with a .476 OPS with men on second or third. Only one of his previous 13 homers was hit with runners in scoring position. Click here to read our full game recap.

Saturday, the Washington Nationals retired Ryan Zimmerman’s number 11 who was their first draft pick ever back in 2005.
