Leading the Morning Briefing: Cubs defeat the Nationals 4-2. The Washington Nationals finished off their road trip by losing to the Chicago Cubs 4-2 Wednesday afternoon at Wrigley Field. Thanks to a second straight seventh-inning rally for the Chicago Cubs, the Cubs could pull out a win against the Washington Nationals. Chicago poured on four runs to tie and take the lead after the seventh-inning stretch.

RHP Josiah Gray pitched his first ever game at Wrigley Field and was close to getting the win. Overall, Gray pitched three scoreless to start, on an efficient-ish 45 pitches, working around three hits, and he retired the side in order in a 10-pitch fourth to keep it a 1-0 game for the Nationals. A one-out single by former Washington Nationals catcher Yan Gomes ended Gray’s outing after 96 pitches.

Josiah Gray’s Line: 6.1 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 5 Ks, 96 P, 64 S, 4/7 GO/FO.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Nationals recently acquired 1B Luke Voit started the finale in Wrigley with a 19-game on-base streak, over which he had 19 hits, eight walks, and was hit three times, and posted a .385 OBP. Since joining the Nats Voit, was 7 for 20 (for a .350 AVG), with two home runs, three RBIs, three walks, a hit by pitch, and three runs scored; however, yesterday, he went 0 for 3 with a K through five today, and a swinging K in the eighth left him 0 for 4 thus ending his 19-game on-base streak.
