Rochester, NY– The Rochester Red Wings recorded a new season high of 22 hits in Sunday’s contest, helping them power their way past the IronPigs in their final game of the series, 11-1 at Frontier Field.

DH Onix Vega went 4-for-5 with a double and 2 RBI in his Triple-A debut, which also was his first game above High-A.

2B Jake Alu also collected four hits Sunday afternoon, falling just a double short of the cycle after he was thrown out at second in the bottom of the 8th.

Vega and Alu were the first pair of Wings to pick up four hit a piece in a single contest since 6/24/21, when Adrian Sanchez and Luis Garcia did it against Worcester.

RHP Patrick Murphy (2-3) took the mound Sunday for the Wings. After coming off a quality start against the IronPigs on 9/13, Murphy threw a season-high 5.0 innings. He gave up one earned run on five hits and struck out seven in his second quality start in a row for the Wings.

The Wings struck first in the opening frame, taking a commanding 4-0 lead over the IronPigs. CF Andrew Stevenson led off with his eighth triple of the year, with this three-bagger, he’s now second in the league in this category. SS Lucius Fox and 2B *Jake Alu *followed with an RBI double and a three-run blast, respectively.

With their extra-base hits, Fox and Alu have extended their on-base streaks to 14 and 13 games, respectively.

The Wings extended their lead in the bottom of the third courtesy of four straight singles from 3B Jack Dunn, RF Daniel Johnson, DH Onix Vega, and C Wilmer Perez, and the score was 6-0 after three innings.

The IronPigs scored in the top of the fourth on a groundout to a sliding Alu in the 3-4 hole. LF Dustin Peterson scored on the play. The IronPigs scored their second run courtesy of a solo home run in the ninth off the bat of RF Jorge Bonifacio.

The Wings’ 22-hit performance is now their best since their 18-hit against Buffalo on 4/16.

After recording his second hit of the game in the fourth, Alu recorded his seventh multi-hit performance during his 13-game on-base streak. Alu went 4-6 on the day, a double short of the cycle. He also drove in four of the Red Wings’ 12 runs today.

The Wings look to use this momentum and take the first game of their final series in Buffalo on Tuesday night at 6:05 pm. They’ll give the ball to RHP Joan Adon (2-2) for the start.
