A Shakeup in the MASN Booth for the Washington Nationals, Fan Favorite F.P. Santangelo will not return in 2022

This past season, Santangelo was absent from MASN broadcasts from three Nationals games between April 30 and May 2, 2021, due to a women’s allegation of sexual misconduct by Santangelo via an anonymous Instagram post. This was reported by the Athletic.

Besides the new look Washington Nationals players, front office, and coaching staff, there will be a new look in the MASN Broadcasting Both.

In a tweet, this afternoon fan favorite and former player F.P. Santangelo announced that he will not be returning to the broadcast booth in 2022.

Well, there goes my no-hitter.

As you may have heard, I will not be returning to the MASN broadcast booth to call Nats games next season. I have so many people to thank for this last decade that I hardly know where to begin.

Lastly, Bob. Bob Carpenter is as much a part of this city as the Washington Monument. There is no better pro and no better friend. I cherished every single one of the more than 1,700 broadcasts we did together. You are the greatest, and I’ll miss you very much.

— F.P. Santangelo (@FightinHydrant) November 3, 2021

F.P. Santangelo played Major League Baseball from 1995 to 2001 for the Montreal Expos, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Oakland Athletics. He has also served as a broadcaster for the Washington Nationals since January 6, 2011, when he joined MASN. FP was paired with play-by-play announcer Bob Carpenter.

Santangelo’s signature line as an announcer is a reverse playoff the superstition of never speaking about a no-hitter when it is in progress. Whenever the first Nationals hit of the game occurs, Santangelo says flatly “There goes the no-hitter.”

This past season, Santangelo was absent from MASN broadcasts from three Nationals games between April 30 and May 2, 2021, due to a women’s allegation of sexual misconduct by Santangelo via an anonymous Instagram post. This was reported by the Athletic.

MASN has been made aware of a sexual misconduct allegation against broadcaster F.P. Santangelo per the Athletic (updated with Statement from F.P. Santangelo + Bob Carpenter Comment)

Santangelo returned to Nationals broadcasts on July 16, 2021, and that day MASN explained through a spokesman that “The Commissioner’s Office and MASN have reviewed the anonymous claim made against F. P. Santangelo. MLB and MASN have found no evidence that Mr. Santangelo violated the terms of his contractor agreement, [or] league, or network regulations, nor is there more evidence currently available to us to collect. Accordingly, Mr. Santangelo’s credentials have been restored and he resumed performing his duties tonight.”

According to Brit Ghiroli play-by-play announcer, Bob Carpenter’s contract was extended for two additional years. MASN spokesperson said to The Athletic about Santangelo’s departure: “As is well-established in the industry, the broadcasters are selected by the team and MASN is working with the Nats to identify his successor.”
