Lynchburg, VA – The Fredericksburg Nationals fell in the deciding game three of the 2022 Carolina League North Divisional Championship series by a 3-0. Branden Boissiere had the only hit of the game for the Fredericksburg Nationals, a single in the 8th inning.

The Fredericksburg Nationals started with an amazing performance by the RHP and Washington Nationals 2019 Draft Pick Jackson Rutledge. Rutledge, who had a comeback year in 2022, gave the Fredericksburg Nationals eight innings of scoreless baseball in Fredericksburg.

His performance in the Fredericksburg Nationals postseason history seemed to be the best of the Fredericksburg Nationals prospect pitchers in the Fred Nationals’ first-ever appearance in playoff baseball. Rutledge’s performance was followed by another Nationals pitching prospect RHP Jarlin Susana. Susana was one of the many prospects traded this year from San Diego to the Nationals in the blockbuster trade of Juan Soto and Josh Bell.

The 18-year-old Jarlin Susana, whose fastball eclipsed 102 several times earlier this month. It’s possible he even continues to add more velocity as he develops. As you can imagine, with a heater like that, Susana’s fastball is his best pitch, though a slider that reaches the upper 80s has more strikeout potential.

This afternoon, RHP Andry Lara started and pitched well, going four innings and allowing just one earned run with four strikeouts. Marlon Perez pitched two scoreless innings in relief, and Riggs Threadgill also had a scoreless inning.

This afternoon, the Hillcats scored single runs in the 2nd, 4th and 5th innings. Richard Paz and Junior Sanquintin had RBIs for the Hillcats.

The Fredericksburg Nationals finish the season 76-57, the second-best record in the Carolina League. The team also scored the most runs in the league.
