The Washington Nationals have summoned right-handed pitcher Jackson Rutledge from Triple-A Rochester while placing fellow righty Michael Soroka on the 15-day Injured List with a right arm biceps strain, effective retroactively to April 1.
At 26, Rutledge is set to join the Nationals' active roster for his first stint this year. Before the call-up, he pitched 3.0 shutout innings in two relief outings for Rochester, giving up just one hit, fanning four, and walking one.
Selected in the first round by Washington in the 2019 MLB Draft, Rutledge kept opposing hitters to a .189 average (10-for-53) over 10 appearances during the 2025 Grapefruit League Spring Training.
In 2024, Rutledge primarily played at Triple-A Rochester but also made three appearances (including one start) for the Nationals, where he recorded a 3.24 ERA. Within Washington's farm system that year, he stood out, ranking second in starts (27), fifth in strikeouts (128), and fifth in opponents’ batting average (.271) during his sixth year as a pro.
