WEST PALM BEACH, FL – The Washington Nationals were shut out by the Miami Marlins, 6-0, on March 21, 2025, at CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches. The Nationals' offense struggled, managing only two hits, while the Marlins capitalized on a six-run fifth inning to secure the win. ​

Michael Soroka started for the Nationals and pitched 4.2 innings, allowing six earned runs on five hits, with three strikeouts and four walks. The bulk of the damage occurred in the fifth inning, where the Marlins scored all six of their runs. ​Many relievers stepped in tonight, and they all kept the deficit at six through the entire game.

The Nationals' offense was limited to two hits over nine innings. CJ Abrams recorded one of the hits and also stole a base, his second of the spring. The team struggled to generate scoring opportunities, finishing the game without advancing a runner past second base. ​

As the Nationals prepare to finalize their roster headed into opening day, they made some roster moves to narrow the group down to 26. On March 19, the team optioned outfielder Robert Hassell III and infielder Trey Lipscomb to Triple-A Rochester. On March 20, the Nationals reassigned right-handed pitcher Clay Helvey, third baseman Brady House, and outfielders Stone Garrett and Andrew Pinckney to minor league camp. On March 21, the club optioned left-handed pitchers Shinnosuke Ogasawara and DJ Herz, infielder Nasim Nuñez, and catcher Drew Millas to Triple-A Rochester. ​These moves indicate the Nationals are narrowing down their roster, with Mitchell Parker emerging as the likely candidate for the fifth starter position. ​
