The Washington Nationals moved to bolster their pitching staff today, signing left-handed pitcher Shinnosuke Ogasawara to a two-year contract. To make room on the roster, the team designated left-handed pitcher Joe La Sorsa for assignment.
Ogasawara, 27, joins the Nationals after a successful season with the Chunichi Dragons in the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) league. In 2024, he posted a 3.12 ERA in 24 games, showcasing impressive control with just 22 walks in 144.1 innings pitched. He also limited home runs, allowing only nine over the course of the season.
A standout performer, Ogasawara was named an NPB All-Star in 2023. He has a strong track record with the Dragons, compiling a 54-72 record with a 3.67 ERA and 863 strikeouts in nine seasons.
Before joining the professional ranks, Ogasawara represented Japan in the 2015 U-18 Baseball World Cup, contributing significantly to the team's second-place finish.
