Rochester Red Wings Recap: Looking Back, Looking Ahead!

A quick recap of the Rochester Red Wings

The Red Wings traveled to Buffalo this week to play a seven-game series against the Bisons. The Red Wings went two and five in the series. The Red Wings continue not to be able to get the big hit with men in scoring position or with two outs, except for Tuesday night’s game, when they scored seven of the eight runs with two outs. On Friday, they had a big top of the sixth when they scored four runs with two outs in an eight-to-one victory. In three of the five losses, the Red Wings had the lead when the game was turned over to the bullpen, but the pen could not hold on to the lead to get the victory.

A bright spot this week was the starting pitching. Andrew Alvarez started Tuesday and Sunday’s games and did not give up an earned run in those two games. Konnor Pilkington pitched and had a 3-0 lead on Wednesday when he left the game. Chase Solesky pitched a great game Friday night when he became the first starter to get a victory since April 1, and Kyle Luckham was promoted to Rochester and pitched five shutout innings. Brady House received four walks, while last year in Rochester, he only had seven walks; by shrinking the strike zone, his batting average climbed nearly 50 points to .299 this series. These are some real positives heading into a new week.

Manager Matt LeCroy announced in the pregame show that Cade Cavalli will get a rehab start in Rochester on Tuesday and probably Sunday. The Red Wings have their hands full this week as the second-place Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs are coming back to Innovative Field in Rochester.
