WASHINGTON, D.C. – APRlL 9 – The Washington Nationals secured another series win with an 8-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday night, earning their fourth consecutive victory and the team’s first home series triumph against Los Angeles since 2014. An amazing offensive performance, led by James Wood's two home runs and five RBIs, coupled with a solid outing from Brad Lord, propelled Washington to the win.
Lord took the mound for Washington, giving Dave Martinez three scoreless innings in his first major league start. The 25-year-old allowed two hits and two walks while striking out four, two of which were against reigning NL MVP Shohei Ohtani. He was relieved by Colin Poche, who earned the win after striking out the side in a perfect inning. In total, four Nationals pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts and four walks.
We knew we had to cover a lot of innings. Me starting first, I’m going to eat as many innings as I can. I want to lessen the load on the rest of the guys in the bullpen. It helps, too, when the offense scores a bunch of runs.
Offensively, the Nationals wasted no time making noise. In the first inning, Alex Call led off with a single, and Wood followed with a two-run homer to center field off Dodgers starter Justin Wrobleski, giving Washington an early 2-0 lead. The Nationals continued to apply pressure in the second inning. With two outs, Dylan Crews singled, Jacob Young and Call walked to load the bases, and Wood drew a walk to force in a run. Keibert Ruiz then lined a two-run single to center, extending the lead to 5-0. In the fourth inning, Crews singled, stole second, advanced to third on Young's single, and scored on Call's sacrifice fly. Wood capped the scoring with his second two-run homer of the game, this time to right-center, which brought the score to (checks notes) 8-0 against the defending world champions.

The Dodgers managed to get on the board in the fifth inning when Andy Pages led off with a solo home run to left-center off Orlando Ribalta. Enrique Hernández added another solo homer in the eighth inning off Jackson Rutledge, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
Wrobleski, making his season debut for Los Angeles, struggled on the mound, allowing eight runs on eight hits over five innings. The Dodgers have now lost three straight games and four of their last five after starting the season with an 8-0 record.
The Nationals will look to complete the series sweep on Wednesday, which would be their first sweep of L.A. since August of 2008. Jake Irvin will face off against Landon Knack at 4:05 in the nation’s capital before the Nats fly to Miami for a weekend set.
