WEST PALM BEACH, FL - This afternoon, the Washington Nationals' prospects faced off against the Houston Astros' prospects in an "away" game in West Palm Beach, Florida, resulting in a 6-6 tie.
Jarlin Susana, a highly regarded pitching prospect for the Nationals, started the game but struggled, allowing five runs on four hits and recording just one strikeout in 1.2 innings. He faced 13 Astros’ prospects during his outing. However, the Nationals' prospect pitching staff excelled after Susana's departure, holding the Astros scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when Pascanel Ferreras singled to right field, driving in Luis Baez from third to even the score. RHP Marquis Grissom Jr. delivered an impressive performance in the bottom of the third, easily retiring the side, throwing 18 pitches, and facing only three batters in his one inning of work.
Left-hander Andrew Alvarez also shone, surrendering just one run on three hits and striking out one over three innings. Alvarez made a notable defensive play by snagging a comebacker off the bat of Astros’ prospect Chase Jaworsky.
Offensively, the Nationals’ prospects tallied six runs on six hits, powered by a two-run homer from Elijah Green and a solo shot by Andrew Pinckney. The team jumped out to a strong start, scoring four runs in the top of the second. Daylen Lile contributed an RBI by drawing a walk with the bases loaded, scoring Seaver King to give the Nationals a 3-2 lead in the second inning. In the following inning, Elijah Green's two-run homer brought home Seaver King once again.
Looking ahead, the Washington Nationals' prospects will host the New York Mets' prospects in Game #2 of Major League Baseball's Spring Breakout on March 16 at CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Florida. The first pitch is slated for 5:05 p.m. EDT.
